The Early Childhood Program is designed to aid
in the social, emotional, and physical development
of each child in an academically stimulating
environment. The most important goal, however,
is to help each child develop a positive self-image.
The curriculum provides a warm and comfortable
transition from home to school. Three very experienced
teachers guide the children through a variety
of activities—both structured and free
choice—in large and small group settings.
Listening, reasoning, and oral communication
skills are taught and practiced. Academic readiness
skills are presented through an integrated, thematic
curriculum using a hands-on approach.
- Math and Science skills
are introduced through free exploration with
manipulatives and through guided discovery
with hands-on activities.
- Reading Readiness is developed
through stories, rhyming activities, games
and a phonetic reading approach. The children
visit the on-campus library each week.
- Language Arts skills are
introduced and practiced daily through interaction
and communication with peers and teachers.
Opportunities and encouragement are provided
for children to speak before both large and
small groups.
- Music is a basis for the
program and is taught each day and integrated
into all subject areas.
- Art is explored through
various media with opportunities for participation
each day.
- Physical Education activities
are provided on a lovely playground adjoining
the building and through an inside gross motor
room used during inclement weather. Bikes,
balls, balance beams, climbing equipment, and
playground equipment encourage the physical
development and coordination of each child.
- Parent Volunteer opportunities
abound, as parents are encouraged to work as
partners with the teachers. There are many
scheduled opportunities for parents to both
help and to observe in the classroom.
- Special Activities include
cultural and ethnic celebrations as well as
special events coordinated with the courses
of study.
